Rodgers: Gerrard has 'years left' at the top

Brendan Rodgers is convinced Steven Gerrard has a number of years left in him at the top level for Liverpool and England.

Gerrard passed a notable milestone in midweek as he won his 100th cap for England. His performance in the middle of midfield drew widespread acclaim, as he dominated the game and left the field with the Three Lions in control.

That England went on to lose the game arguably added to Gerrard's contribution and it certainly impressed his club manager.

"He showed quality in everything he did," Rodgers said. "His passing and his leadership qualities in the game were outstanding.

"It's a really remarkable achievement for him, because I think with every cap Steven has earned, he's had to work hard for them.

"He's played in a number of positions, and all for the benefit of the team, really."

Gerrard has stayed loyal to Liverpool and only this week politely rejected the advice of Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic who urged him to move clubs. Gerrard's future is likely to be with Liverpool and Rodgers feels he has years left at the top.

Rodgers said: "I've watched Steven from afar for a number of years, and I've had the great pleasure of working with him for these last four months or so.

"He's an absolute joy to work with. He's a real credit to the profession and he's got a number of years left yet.

"You saw him(against Sweden), he was fit and strong; his mobility was good. He's a great influence for the national team, still, and he's going to be for the next couple of years. It's an incredible achievement."
