Marseille want to bring Didier Drogba back to the club where he made his name but will need FIFA approval to complete a loan move for the Shanghai Shenhua striker, according to reports in France.

Drogba, 34, joined Chinese Super League outfit Shenhua in July and scored eight goals in 11 games to help the club finish ninth in the table.

But the Ivory Coast international is keen to maintain his fitness in the off-season as he will be competing at the African Nations Cup in January.

It has been suggested that Drogba could return to Chelsea, but L'Equipe is reporting that another of his former clubs, Marseille, also want him on a short-term loan.

Despite only playing one season for Marseille in 2003-04 before moving on to Chelsea, Drogba is idolised at the Stade Velodrome as he scored 32 goals in 55 games for the club.

The player himself has also spoken publicly about his affection for l'OM, stating before Chelsea's Champions League trip to Marseille in 2010 that "the feeling between the fans, the city, and me was unbelievable".

There has yet to be any official comment from either Marseille or Drogba on the reports.
