Queens Park Rangers will travel to Manchester United this weekend without a manager after Mark Hughes was sacked on Friday.

Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge of the team for their trip to Old Trafford on Saturday, while former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite to replace Hughes at Loftus Road.

Hughes leaves with the club bottom of the Premier League table, with just four points and without a win after 12 games of the season, having only survived relegation on the final day of last term.

A statement on the club's official website confirmed Hughes' contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

The statement said: "This decision has been taken after careful consideration by the board of directors, following numerous meetings over the last few days. The [board] wish to thank Mark for his commitment, hard work and dedication in his ten months in charge.

"Mark has shown integrity and professionalism throughout his time here, but ultimately the circumstances we find ourselves in have left the board with very little choice but to make a change.

"The board will now be working actively to put a new managerial structure in place as soon as possible."

Hughes replaced Neil Warnock at Loftus Road in January, having walked out on QPR's west London rivals Fulham the previous summer. Despite losing at Manchester City on the final day of the campaign, results elsewhere ensured they survived their first season back in the top flight.

Despite bringing in 10 new players in the summer transfer window to go with the four added in January, Hughes was not able to engineer a change in the club's fortunes.
