Triumphant McIlroy targets two majors in 2013
Rory McIlroy has set his target for 2013, revealing he will attempt to win two major titles after closing out 2012 with a DP World Tour Championship triumph.
McIlroy resisted the threat of Justin Rose - who hit a course record 62 - to win in Dubai, putting the seal on the best year of his career.
The Northern Irishman finished the season as world No. 1, having won the US PGA Championship, the Ryder Cup and both the PGA and European Tour money lists.
His tally of majors now stands at two, so McIlroy wants to double that as he begins to eat into Jack Nicklaus' record of 18. Reflecting on the year, the youngster said everything had gone according to plan.
"It's been great. I couldn't have wished for any better," McIlroy said.
"To back up 2011, winning a major, by winning another this year, and being part of an unbelievable story at the Ryder Cup and then finishing the season off like this, it's been an incredible year.
"Hopefully I can emulate it or surpass it next year.
"I'll be trying to win more tournaments, more majors, try and increase my tally of those. I'll try to increase it from two to three, or two to four, so I've got plenty to target next year."
McIlroy was asked in Dubai what his career targets were when he started out in the game of golf. Unsurprisingly, his aims were rather more modest than what has become reality.
"[My aim was] to earn a Tour card. To make enough money to make a living. I guess I've done that!" McIlroy said. "I didn't know how good I was going to be."
