Lazio president Claudio Lotito has visited the hospitalised Tottenham fan injured in last week's attack and told him the incident "had nothing to do with football".

Ashley Mills, 25, was part of the group of Tottenham supporters attacked in a Rome bar ahead of their Europa League fixture against Lazio and was stabbed in a femoral artery in his thigh.

Lotito visited him at the San Camillo Hospital on Monday and took the opportunity to tell reporters outside the hospital that his club were in no way responsible for what had happened.

He said: "The lad is much better and will be discharged soon. We talked about the incident. I told him Lazio fans are not racist and what happened to him and his friends had nothing to do with football.

"We have always tried to disassociate ourselves from racist behaviour."
