Newcastle lose Cabaye until February

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye will be sidelined until February after requiring further surgery on a groin injury.

And manager Alan Pardew revealed that Steven Taylor will be joining the 26-year-old France international on the sidelines until the new year with a hamstring complaint.

Cabaye underwent surgery in Paris on Monday to deal with the groin problem that has kept him out of action since the 1-0 Premier League defeat by West Ham on November 11.

"He's had one side of his groin done and that caused a potential weakness in the other side, so that needs to be done," Pardew confirmed.

"That will be done, I think, today or tomorrow and he will probably be out for eight weeks.

"We are probably looking at February 1 for both he and Steven, so we might as well get the bad news out of the way, because that's what it is, and just focus on what is important, and that's what we have got left."

Cabaye, who has made 13 appearances for the club in all competitions this season, has been an integral part of Pardew's rejuvenated Newcastle side since his £4.8million arrival in the summer of 2011.

The France international was one of 11 senior players unavailable to the manager for Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Southampton, in which Taylor picked up his injury.

Newcastle have failed to win in Cabaye's absence, losing 2-1 at home to Swansea and drawing 1-1 with Maritimo in the Europa League clash at St James' Park last week.

"It's another blow," Pardew added when asked about Taylor. "We are in a run of bad luck for us. He's an important player and we hope for a speedy recovery.

"He's cursing his luck a little bit, but unfortunately for Steven, his record is that he does pick up injuries.

"Maybe the fact that we have had to call upon him more than perhaps we would like with the injuries and Colo's [Fabricio Coloccini's] suspension has probably compounded the issue."
