Andre Villas-Boas has told Harry Redknapp to forget about trying to prise Jermain Defoe away from Tottenham in January.

Redknapp has been placed in charge of Queens Park Rangers and with the club propping up the Premier League table, he is likely to be an active player in January.

It has been suggested that Redknapp will seek out familiar faces ahead of his relegation battle and Defoe's name has cropped up.

Villas-Boas has been made aware of the speculation and has ruled out any prospect of selling a striker he has likened to Radamel Falcao.

"That's not possible," Villas-Boas said when asked about the prospect of Defoe leaving in January. "It's absolutely impossible. We have the belief in him."

Michael Dawson is another player familiar to Redknapp and he seems to be available for transfer.

"I think if that possibility arises we will have to consider it," Villas-Boas said of a player who has made only one league start this term. "But we're not looking to make a lot in the January transfer window."
