Emmanuel Frimpong has been given the green light by FIFA to represent Ghana and aid their bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA this week confirmed that its players' status committee had approved the change, switching Frimpong's eligibility for England to Ghana.

Frimpong, 20, had represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, but he confirmed two years ago that he had ambitions to represent Ghana.

The midfielder, who was born in Kumasi, said: "I have always said that, no matter what, I will always play for Ghana because I believe I am a Ghanaian".

Frimpong is currently on loan at Championship side Charlton after finding first-team opportunities hard to come by at his parent club Arsenal.

Ghana resume World Cup qualifying in March at home to Sudan, and trail group leader Zambia by three points after two matches.
