Sturridge denies making Liverpool demands

Daniel Sturridge's representatives have moved quickly to deny reports that the Chelsea striker's contract demands have scuppered a prospective January move to Liverpool.

Reports this week suggested that Sturridge - who has been linked with the Reds on-and-off every since he was offered by the Blues in part-exchange for Fernando Torres almost two years ago - was a target for Brendan Rodgers when the transfer window reopens, but negotiations had faltered over his demands.

Sturridge was reported to have asked for £80,000-a-week to move to Anfield - while he also wanted guarantees he would be used as a central striker at the club, after being consigned to the flanks for much of his time at Stamford Bridge.

However, his representatives strenuously denied those stories were true.

"Daniel Sturridge does not conduct his business in public," the player's agency, Octagon, said. "He also does not make demands in any negotiation, with regards to salary or his playing position.

"Any contract between a club and a player has to be based on mutual agreement."

The 23-year-old is currently injured with a hamstring injury, and looks set to miss Wednesday's Champions League game against FC Nordsjaelland after being absent from training on Tuesday.
