Swansea City will fend off any January moves for prolific forward Michu amid reported interest from Italy.

Michu, 26, has been in sensational goalscoring form for Michael Laudrup's side since arriving from Rayo Vallecano in the summer, netting ten goals in 15 Premier League games.

The Spanish star is widely regarded as one of the best Premier League signings of the summer having been captured for a bargain £2 million despite his record of 15 goals in La Liga last season.

Michu's fine displays for Swansea have reportedly attracted a number of admirers from around Europe, with Serie A sides Napoli and Genoa being tipped to make a January swoop.

However, Swans assistant Alan Curtis was quoted in the Sun as saying: "I'm confident if there are any bids we'll fend them off."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins echoed that sentiment, insisting that the Welsh club are under no pressure to offload their talent.

"We'll be looking to strengthen in January, not to weaken our squad," Jenkins told BBC Sport. "We'll make every attempt to make sure that happens."

Michu is currently atop the Premier League goalscoring charts alongside Demba Ba, Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez, and Jenkins expressed his delight at the way the Spaniard has settled in.

"We felt we had him [Michu] at good value and with his goalscoring it's proved to be a good decision," he said. "We're very pleased with that one."
