Arsene Wenger claims to be surprised by talk of Bacary Sagna leaving Arsenal, as he feels the club are making progress with regard to extending the full-back's contract.

Arsenal have lost of a host of star names in recent seasons and it has been claimed that Sagna could be the next high-profile player to head for the exit door.

Sagna has moved to quell the speculation by insisting he is 'happy' at the Emirates and Wenger claims progress is being made with regard to an extension.

"I don't understand the speculation," Wenger said. "He has one and a half years of contract to go.

"We are in negotiations to extend the contract and we are very positive.

"So I am quite amazed by the statements as it is quite the opposite of the feeling we have with the player and with the negotiations about his extension."
