Rafa: Tactical tweaks have restored Torres' confidence

Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez believes Fernando Torres has rediscovered his goalscoring touch after subtle changes to his game.

Torres ended a Premier League goal drought that extended over 12 hours with two strikes against Sunderland on Saturday, as the Blues won 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.

And Benitez believes the Spaniard is full of confidence once again, thanks in part to some slight changes to his style of play encouraged by the interim boss.

"It's fair to say that we are watching now a Fernando with more confidence and with more belief, and at the same time, the team is the same way," Benitez said.

"I was analysing his movement before and we were adjusting little things. It's a question of confidence and just little different movements.

"I have said before, if the team plays well and creates chances, Fernando will score goals."

Torres' second goal of the day came from the penalty spot, as he shrugged off defender David Luiz's advances to score with his first ever penalty attempt on English soil.

Luiz scored from the spot in midweek, while usual taker Frank Lampard returned from injury as a late substitute in the game, but Benitez believes it is a good sign that Torres wants to take penalties for the club.

"For me, the positive thing is that he had confidence," Benitez added. "David has a lot of confidence, but Fernando said, 'Yes, I will take it and I will score'.

"We have three [penalty takers] and it depends on the moment. Sometimes you have a player who has more confidence. They decide.

"They are players and they know how they are on the pitch."
