Arsene Wenger felt his Arsenal side gave everything in their loss to League Two side Bradford in the Capital One Cup.

The Gunners were second best for long spells of the match and it took a Thomas Vermaelen header three minutes from time to force extra-time.

Arsenal failed to complete the job and Bradford progressed to the semi-finals when Vermaelen sent his penalty against a post.

Wenger felt his side came up against an inspired Bradford and their keeper Matt Duke and despite falling to a side from League Two, he refused to criticise his players.

"We had many, many chances, their keeper had a great game and we could not convert out chances," Wenger told Sky Sports. "When you go out it is never good enough.

"We lost on penalties against a team who defended well. We have to give credit to Bradford.

"I cannot fault the effort of the team, they gave everything for 120 minutes."
