Robson calls on Arsenal to sack Wenger

Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson has launched a withering attack on Arsene Wenger, claiming his time was up as manager of the Gunners "two or three years ago".

Wenger is under real pressure at the Emirates, with an indifferent recent run of form being capped off by an embarrassing Capital One Cup exit to Bradford.

The Gunners were second best for chunks of Tuesday's penalty shootout loss at Valley Parade and Robson feels the performance highlights Wenger's inability to remedy problems that are unfolding.

He feels the Frenchman's star has been on the wane for some time and believes the club need to act by axing their long-serving manager.

"They're underprepared when they go onto the field, and if you play football off the cuff, you're going to lose football matches," Robson told Sky Sports News.

"At the moment, Arsenal's performances are not good enough. He should have gone two or three years ago.

"There's coaches here who could take over. Steve Bould is a very good coach but he's not allowed to coach them - he doesn't do any coaching.

"Terry Burton is another. And they've also got a scout called John Cartwright who is probably the best football mind I've ever worked with. He's just looking at players.

"They're the people who should be in charge of Arsenal Football Club."

Robson feels players are not fulfilling their potential under Wenger, citing Andriy Arshavin as an example.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Robson said: "I've seen Gervinho play for the Ivory Coast before he came to Arsenal, he was a good player. I saw [Andriy] Arshavin play for Russia and Zenit St Petersburg, he was a good player. I've seen [Aaron] Ramsey play for the Welsh Under-21s, he's a good player."
