Rodgers quiet on Walcott and Sturridge

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has warned the club's supporters that he may not be as active as they are urging him to be in the January transfer window.

The Anfield faithful were left stunned by Saturday's 3-1 home defeat against Aston Villa, increasing the pressure on Rodgers to make some much needed additions to his squad.

But the Reds boss is suggesting he will not 'solve his problems' in this transfer window, even though he continues to rely on Luis Suarez to carry the burden as the only senior striker at his disposal.

"There is no doubt we will get reinforcements in and there is no doubt that we will get the backing, but it will come down to two things - the availability and affordability of players," Rodgers said. "All our problems were never going to be solved in this window because the January window is one of the least productive.

"We will look to solve some of our problems in January if we can, and then we will look to revisit it in the summer knowing that then we will be in a much better place than we were last summer."

Rodgers has reiterated his desire to sign attacking players in the transfer window, but he would not be drawn on suggestions that Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge would be arriving at Anfield next month.

"I see lots of names bandied about that are pie in the sky because there won't be too many top players moving in January as clubs want top money," he said. "There is no doubt that we want to bring in goals and we want to bring in players who can assist in scoring goals.

"It is all about progress, and I believe we are making that, but you cannot solve all your problems in one leap."

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool fans will remain patient if another transfer window passes without some healthy business from Rodgers and the club's hierarchy.

Rodgers has already hinted that he may look to make a couple of loan signings in the January window, but supporters remain hopeful that the club's owners make a statement of intent with some eye-catching signings next month.
