Former Baggie Clement charged by BHA
Former West Bromwich Albion defender Neil Clement is one of six men facing an inquiry after being charged with serious breaches of the rules of racing.
Jockey Eddie Ahern, James Clutterbuck and three unlicensed individuals have also been charged.
Racehorse owner Clement, who retired from football in January 2010 with a knee injury, will be summoned to a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) disciplinary panel next year.
He is charged with using inside information to place bets, laying his own horse Hindu Kush and failing to provide requested details to the BHA.
Ahern, who is accused of passing on inside information to Clement and/or others, is charged in relation to five races between September 2009 and February 2011. He is likely to be warned off if he is found guilty.
The others under investigation are James Clutterbuck, the son of Newmarket trainer Ken, and three individuals without licences - Paul Hill, Martin Raymond and Michael Turl. They are scheduled to attend a hearing between April 29 and May 3.
Three footballers, including Ipswich striker Michael Chopra, were among a group of nine people charged by the BHA in October after an investigation into suspicious betting activity. Their hearing is scheduled to start on January 14.
