Cesc Fabregas' father has denied reports he had a meeting with Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano at the weekend after reports linked the Arsenal midfielder with a move to the Bernabeu.

There had been speculation that Fabregas Snr, also called Francesc, attended Real's game with Valencia at the Bernabeu after television pictures claimed to show the Arsenal midfielder's father in a private box.

However, he categorically denied being there or having had talks with Valdano.

"I was not at the Bernabeu," Fabregas Snr said. "Meeting with Valdano? It is totally false. On Monday morning I have been with my daughter walking around Barcelona, this is the only truth.''

Speculation surrounding Fabregas reached fever pitch ahead of Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona earlier this month, though Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood moved to quash reports linking Fabregas with a move to the Nou Camp.
