Derry criticises QPR transfer policy

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry has criticised the club's attempts to progress too quickly, claiming it has hindered them.

Comparing Rangers to Swansea and Norwich, who also won promotion to the top flight in 2011, Derry believes the policy of signing big names has backfired for the west London club who have only managed one Premier League win this season.

A host of new faces were brought into the club in the summer in a bid to fast-track the club to success - Esteban Granero, Jose Bosingwa, Junior Hoilett, Park Ji-Sung and Julio Cesar among them.

But veteran midfielder Derry, 35, who was sidelined by the signings, believes a more patient approach would have paid off.

Derry said: "At times it's hard to take because you feel that you get the club into the Premier League and you want to be part of it. You want to play.

"The teams that got promoted in the same year as us, Swansea and Norwich, they seem to have done things a lot slower than what we have at QPR - rightly or wrongly.

"I hope we can get out of the problems we're in at the minute. I can only speak from a personal opinion - things should have been done a bit slower really.

"I suppose when you get the opportunity to bring in these guys who are at the top of the profession - Mark Hughes, who was our manager in the close season, thought we should be bringing in a number of players to enhance our chances of progressing.

"It just didn't work out that way. It takes time to mould a team, it really does. My own opinion is things were done just too quickly."

Meanwhile, Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is planning to shake up his backroom staff by bringing in Ian Broomfield and Les Ferdinand, according to the Daily Mail.

Broomfield is expected to come into Loftus Road as chief scout while former QPR striker Ferdinand, who also worked alongside Redknapp at Tottenham, will work in a coaching capacity.

Elsewhere, technical director Mike Rigg has left the west London club, after joining from Manchester City following the appointment of Mark Hughes as manager.

"Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm that it has been agreed that Mike Rigg will leave his position at Loftus Road," read an official club statement.
