Mancini not planning on City exit

Roberto Mancini has promised that Manchester City will secure silverware this season by insisting he "always" wins.

Mancini has won at least one major trophy in seven of his eight full seasons in management and in the other, with Lazio, he achieved the club's objective by qualifying for the Champions League.

The Italian marked the third anniversary of his appointment at the Etihad Stadium by saying it is vital that City, who went 35 years without a major honour before they lifted the FA Cup in 2011, win silverware every season.

There are only two trophies at stake for City, who were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Aston Villa and finished bottom of their Champions League group.

They trail Manchester United by six points in the Premier League and begin their FA Cup campaign against Watford on January 5.

"It could be that in some seasons you can't win the Premier League but if you win the FA Cup, I think it is important for us to win a trophy every year," Mancini said. "It is important for us in particular, because we started to win two years ago and every year [since then] we won a trophy."

Mancini's Lazio finished fourth in his first year in charge and then won the Coppa Italia in his second, earning him a move to Inter Milan.

In four seasons at Inter, Mancini won the Serie A three times and the Coppa Italia twice before joining City in December 2009 and securing the FA Cup 17 months later, after his first full season in charge, and then the Premier League title in 2012.

He warned Manchester United that while Sir Alex Ferguson's team won the recent derby and lead the Premier League, City could soon be Manchester's outstanding side.

"Their mentality is stronger than our mentality in this moment," he said. "But as a team our quality is the same level as theirs in this moment. We have a big respect for United and for Ferguson but if we work well we will be better."

Mancini said he would like to still be in charge of City in three years' time, saying: "I hope so. We won [last season] and I think we can continue to win in the future."
