Carlton Cole and Darron Gibson are both free to return to Premier League action on Saturday after having their red cards overturned.

West Ham striker Cole and Everton midfielder Gibson were sent off by referee Anthony Taylor during the Toffees' 2-1 win at Upton Park last Saturday.

Cole was sent off for a challenge on Leighton Baines during the second half after opening the scoring in the first, while Gibson received his marching orders in added time at the end of the game.

The pair faced the prospect of missing three games each, with Gibson already completing one game as Everton beat Wigan 2-1 on Boxing Day.

A statement from the FA said: "The FA can confirm that red cards shown to both Carlton Cole and Darron Gibson have been rescinded.

"Both players were sent from the field of play in the Premier League fixture between West Ham United and Everton at Upton Park on Saturday 22 December. Their three-match suspensions have been withdrawn immediately and written reasons will be provided at a later date."

Cole will now return for West Ham's trip to Reading on Saturday while Gibson is eligible for Everton's home game against Chelsea.
