Nzonzi successful with red card appeal

Stoke midfielder Steven Nzonzi has had his red card overturned after receiving his marching orders in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Southampton.

Nzonzi, 24, was shown the red card by Mark Clattenburg at the Britannia Stadium for what appeared to be a stamp on Saints midfielder Jack Cork. However, replays showed after the game that the former Blackburn man actually failed to make proper contact.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis felt aggrieved by the decision, believing Cork to have over-reacted.

"Whether the reaction of Cork, who is a good player and a good lad, has influenced Mark, I'm not sure, but Steven certainly doesn't stamp on the player," he said. "There was no intent. He's actually planted his leg between his legs, which was quite clever.''

The Potters launched an immediate appeal, and upon review by the Independent Regulatory Commission, a claim of wrongful dismissal has been upheld.

The Commission further confirmed Nzonzi's potential three-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
