Allardyce confirms Chamakh enquiry

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed he has made an enquiry about out-of-favour Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

Chamakh, 28, has struggled to break into the Arsenal team this season and has not appeared for them in the Premier League since May.

Allardyce is keen to add to his striking options, as he will lose Modibo Maiga to African Cup of Nations duty and has Andy Carroll in the treatment room, and Chamakh is in the frame.

"We have made an enquiry and that is all we have done at the moment," Hammers boss Allardyce said.

"The situation with Andy Carroll injured and Modibo Maiga going to the African Nations Cup, at this time as a striker we have Carlton Cole and that is it until Andy gets fit.

"There is a possibility that deal can be done, we are looking at it yes as well as a number of others."

The Morocco international, capped 61 times, moved to England in 2010 on a free transfer from Bordeaux where he scored 79 times in 293 appearances. Three of his four appearances this season have come in the Capital One Cup.
