Hannover have agreed a deal to sign Arsenal defender Johan Djourou on loan until the end of the season.

Djourou, 25, has made only two senior appearances for the Gunners this season, both in the Capital One Cup, and Arsenal have announced that he will spend the rest of the campaign in Germany, subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

Hannover general manager Jorg Schmadtke believes the Switzerland international can be a major benefit to his side, who currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga.

"Johan Djourou is a professional with international experience," he said. "We are convinced he can help us on short term. He meets our requirements, as he can also play Europa League."

Hannover coach Mirko Slomka added: "We needed to do something in defence after the injuries Felipe and Leon Andreasen suffered. It's my personal conviction that, with his robustness, his tactical understanding and his willingness, he will be able to help us."
