Manchester City were dealt a major blow on Saturday with news Sergio Aguero's hamstring is torn.

Aguero had been in sparkling form in recent weeks but pulled up late in the 3-0 win over Stoke. The striker immediately reached for the back of his leg and was quickly substituted.

City had hoped Aguero's injury would clear up rapidly, with Roberto Mancini saying on Friday that he hoped the Argentinean would be fit to face Arsenal next week.

However, Aguero tweeted on Saturday that scans have revealed a tear, and he will head to Italy for treatment. The length of his expected absence is unclear.

"The studies confirmed I have a torn muscle," Aguero tweeted. "We have to keep on thinking positive and try to recover in the best way possible.

"For that, I've travelled to Italy where a specialist is treating me. I'll keep you up to date in how the injury evolves."

Meanwhile, Joleon Lescott has ruled out the possibility of leaving City in January amid talk of a switch to Aston Villa. Roberto Mancini recently stated no player would be sold by the Premier League champions, and now Lescott has clarified his position.

"Joleon Lescott has ruled out the possibility of any loan move during the January transfer window," said a statement released on Lescott's behalf by the player's spokesman.

"Despite speculation linking him with several Premier League clubs, Joleon has no desire to leave Manchester City."
