Reading are poised to sign Fulham defender Stephen Kelly, with Cottagers manager Martin Jol confirming that the right-back was having a medical at the Berkshire club.

Kelly, 29, has lost his regular starting place in the Fulham side to Sascha Riether this season, and Jol said the Reading deal was "close to completion".

A Republic of Ireland international, Kelly has been at Fulham since 2009 and has made 71 appearances in all competitions for the club.

"Stephen Kelly went for a medical at Reading today," Jol said. "I expect him to join Reading permanently.'' The manager also said Fulham would "try to get one or two players in" during the January window.
