Chinese Super League club Guizhou Renhe have dropped their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, insisting the veteran missed out on an "amazing" opportunity.

Lampard, 34, was linked with a move to China in November and it is believed Guizhou were willing to spend in excess of £20 million to recruit the England international.

Los Angeles Galaxy and a number of European clubs have also joined the chase for Lampard, who has been told his Chelsea contract will not be extended.

In November, Guizhou's official website said Lampard had agreed to join the club, but the 34-year-old's failure to commit to the deal forced them to look elsewhere for a midfielder.

"The contract offered to Lampard was amazing and he would have been treated like a God out there," a Chinese source said according to The Sun. "It would have been a great adventure for him.

"But although there were a lot of talks, he would never give a definite 'yes' and a couple of weeks ago Guizhou Renhe finally gave up."
