Villa form driving Lambert 'mental'

Paul Lambert has admitted he is being driven "absolutely mental" by Aston Villa's bad luck and bad form.

The club are in the Premier League's bottom three after a wretched run of four defeats in the last five games including an 8-0 defeat against Chelsea, a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham and a 3-0 loss to fellow strugglers Wigan.

A last-minute Swansea equaliser denied Villa a much-needed victory after that before a questionable penalty against Southampton decided last weekend's bottom of the table encounter. And as he prepares for a trip to local rivals West Brom on Sunday, Lambert says he is getting to the end of his tether.

"It drives you mad it drives you absolutely mental at times," he said. "I don't go home and think everything's great, you go home and you get aggressive with yourself. "I'm the same as everybody else, every other Villa fan, I'm hurt by it."

Despite no sign of an end to their troubles Lambert remains optimistic that they will pull away from the foot of the table and to safety. "We'll get out," he added. "You've got to have belief. The club has been in this position for the last few years."
