Roberto Mancini has ruled out Manchester City making any major signings in the final week of the January transfer window.

City trail Manchester United by seven points and Mancini has lamented a lack of options on account of injuries to key players.

The January window offers him the chance to strengthen and the club's mega-rich owners have shown in the past they are happy to back their manager in the transfer market. But it would appear Mancini will work with what he has for the remainder of the season.

"In January it is difficult to take good players," he said. "There is no one club that can sell good players in January.

"Maybe we can find young players. If we have this chance in the next 10-12 days, probably we can do something but I am not sure."

Mancini has said that Sweden striker John Guidetti, who has not made a senior appearance since March because of a virus, will not be loaned out.

"Guidetti is not ready to play in this minute," he added. "It is difficult for him to recover after his injury. I think he needs another two months."
