Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that midfielder Sandro will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

Sandro was forced off during the first half of Tottenham's 0-0 draw in the Premier League game at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, and had an operation on his injured anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus earlier in the week.

"Following consultation with the knee surgeon, the club can report that Sandro is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season after surgery on his right knee earlier this week," a brief statement on the club's official website read.

The Brazil international is an integral part of the Spurs midfield, and has featured 27 times this season for Andre Villas-Boas's side.

Losing the 23-year-old for the remainder of the campaign could well have a major impact on Tottenham's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, starting with the visit of Premier League leaders Manchester United to White Hart Lane on Sunday.

However, Spurs have recently seen combative midfielder Scott Parker return to action having missed the first half of the season.
