Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko is close to signing a pre-contract agreement with Newcastle United.

Sissoko, 23, has been heavily linked with a move away from Toulouse and is in the final year of his current contract with the club.

Speaking to RMC Sport, a member of the player's entourage said: "Moussa has done everything to ensure that Toulouse recoup a transfer fee and he would leave this winter.

"Newcastle were encouraged to make an offer. However, the shocking attitude of the club directors, who have pushed Moussa out of the group, has pushed us to sign a pre-contract with Newcastle."

Toulouse president Olivier Sadran has remained firm in his handling of Sissoko, recently revealing the player's potential January options.

Sadran told BeIN Sport: "Moussa Sissoko has three choices: extend his contract with Toulouse, leave this winter or stay on the bench until June."

Sissoko has been removed from the 18-man squad for Toulouse's trip to Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup on Wednesday night.

Sources close to ESPN understand the 23-year-old will undergo a medical with the Magpies on Wednesday ahead of signing his Magpies deal on Thursday.

The news also follows reports earlier in the day from beIN sport that the player had chosen the Magpies over a potential move to Olympique Marseille.
