Newcastle United are set to secure the signing of Bordeaux forward Yoan Gouffran, after the player announced on Tuesday night that a deal is imminent.

Gouffran is set to join the growing number of players to have signed for Newcastle from France Gouffran, 26, has spent four-and-a-half seasons with his current club but is set to join Newcastle's battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League and the growing number of players signed from France at St James' Park.

He wrote on Twitter: "Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow. I need a new challenge and therefore I hope that you respect my choice. I will follow all the results of the Girondins [Bordeaux].

"Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud. Thanks to everyone....kisses."

Gouffran, whose contract at Bordeaux is due to expire in the summer, will add firepower to Alan Pardew's side, after Demba Ba was sold to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.

On Tuesday, Newcastle confirmed the signing of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier while Toulouse's Moussa Sissoko is also reportedly set to make the move to Tyneside.
