Sir Alex Ferguson has hit out at reports that he is considering David De Gea's future at Manchester United.

The Spanish goalkeeper has come under intense scrutiny after he was at fault for Tottenham's last-minute goal in the 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane last Sunday.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville singled him out for criticism on television, while ESPN was informed on Wednesday that the Premier League leaders would listen to offers for the Spain Under-21 captain, but Ferguson refused to discuss the player.

"I'm not getting into that at all," Ferguson said when the subject of De Gea was raised. "We have to listen to some idiots in the game."

De Gea's girlfriend has intensified speculation about his future by telling Catalan TV that he would like to return to La Liga and sign for Barcelona.

De Gea has been linked with both Barca and Real Madrid by the Spanish media in recent days, with both Primera Division giants considering their keeping options given Victor Valdes' decision to leave the Camp Nou, and Iker Casillas' broken hand meaning two months on the sidelines for the Bernabeu club's captain.

The former Atletico Madrid player's partner Edurne Garcia appeared to suggest De Gea would be open to a move back home when she spoke on Thursday on 8TV show Arucitys.

"David is very happy at Manchester United, but of course he would like to return to Spain," Edurne said. "If he can go to Barca, even better."

De Gea was signed by United for £18.5 million from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Edurne is a singer, actress and TV presenter who came to public prominence when she appeared on reality TV show Operacion Triunfo in 2005.
