Philipe Coutinho could be heading to Liverpool this week, but he won't be playing in the FA Cup this season

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes a move to the Premier League could be beneficial for midfielder Philipe Coutinho as the Serie A giants continue negotiations with Liverpool.

Coutinho, 20, has been the subject of two previous bids from the Reds and it is believed the club are hoping to sign the youngster before the end of the transfer window on Thursday.

Widespread reports in the Italian media on Monday suggest the Brazilian could be on his way to England for a medical, although neither club has confirmed whether a deal has been struck.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hinted that the club's transfer activity is not yet over and Moratti's backing of the move could boost contract talks.

"There are certain opportunities that should be taken," Moratti said. "Sometimes players are able to get more playing time, and so I think it could be a great opportunity for Coutinho and a deal that might work out well for us."

Inter's asking price of €13.7 million for Coutinho could pave the way for their pursuit of Corinthians midfielder Paulinho, with the Brazilian side refusing to budge on their high demands.

"Does Paulinho cost too much, or is it something that could actually come to fruition? There's no doubt that he costs too much," Moratti said. "Whether it could come to fruition is something we'll see in the next few days."
