Everton have agreed a deal to sign Netherlands international Leroy Fer from FC Twente, according to a statement on the club's official website.

Fer, 23, is heading to Merseyside to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, ahead of a reported €10 million deal, with a view to joining David Moyes' team before the end of the transfer window.

The midfielder started his career at Feyenoord before making the switch to Twente where he has made 29 appearances, scoring ten goals.

Fer has made two appearances for Netherlands at international level and is reportedly known as 'the Bouncer' for his physical appearance, while he has also been compared to former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira in style.

Fer hit the headlines last year when he splashed out £22,000 on a horse for his girlfriend, forgetting that she lived in a block of flats and would not be able to care for it
