Arsene Wenger has insisted there is no chance of Arsenal signing David Beckham.

Former England captain Beckham is a free agent after winding down his contract with LA Galaxy and he has been linked with clubs around the globe.

He recently moved in to a house in London with his wife and children, fuelling speculation that he would be looking to play in England.

The Sun revealed on Tuesday that Beckham would turn up at London Colney for a training stint with the Gunners - hinting it could be with a view to him securing a deal.

Wenger confirmed at his press conference on Tuesday that Beckham had called him to ask if he could train with his side, but insisted nothing else should be read into the link up.

"He has asked to come here and work on his fitness," Wenger said. "He has not done anything for a long, long time. He comes here to try to be fit again. He called me.

"It is purely for fitness, there is no speculation about signing or anything.

"I believe he is coming here purely on fitness purposes.

"We are helping someone who deserves it. We are open for people who behave well when they come here and who have given great service.
