UEFA fines Spurs

UEFA has fined Lazio, Tottenham and Maribor over crowd problems at Europa League group games played towards the end of last year.

European football's governing body announced that it had also imposed a suspended order to Lazio to play their next UEFA competition game behind closed doors after bringing charges earlier this month.

Although the triggering of that sanction is subject to a probationary two-year spell, the Italian club have been fined €90,000 for racist behaviour by their fans, the throwing of missiles and fireworks, "incidents of a non-sporting nature", the late handling in of their team sheet and late arrival at the stadium for the November Group J game in Rome.

Lazio supporters chanted insults about Spurs' links with the Jewish community including: "Juden Tottenham'' at away fans during the 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on November 22.

UEFA charged Tottenham over separate crowd disturbances at that Group J game, and have fined the Londoners €10,000.

Lazio have also been fined €50,000 for racist behaviour by supporters, the ignition of fireworks and further "incidents of a non-sporting nature" at another group stage game against NK Maribor in Slovenia in December.

Maribor have been fined €17,000 for insufficient match organisation and the throwing of missiles by fans at the same game.

All three clubs have the right to lodge an appeal within three days of receiving the reasons for the punishments imposed by UEFA.
