Mario Balotelli has admitted he jumped at the chance to leave Manchester City for AC Milan.

Balotelli, 22, is expected to complete his move to the Serie A side on Thursday, after flying out to Milan on Wednesday to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

And the Italy international, who managed just one goal in 14 Premier League appearances for City this season, admitted that the chance to return to his homeland was one he was eager to take.

"I ran to Milan," Balotelli told the club's official channel. "I had wanted to play here for a long time. The start of this season was negative, but with this jersey I will do better.

"I made some important choices, so I hope they can bring good luck to me and the team. I just want the fans to love me."

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani added his belief that Balotelli's addition will enhance the club's ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.

Galliani told the club's official website: "It is a dream come true and something that we all wanted, with the president Silvio Berlusconi at the forefront.

"With the arrival of Mario, we have strengthened our team a lot.

"We have worked so hard and Mario has been in our hearts for a long time and finally we have succeeded in signing him."
