Benitez not drawn on Lampard future
Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has batted away questions over the future of Frank Lampard, claiming that he is only concerned whether he is scoring goals or not.
Where Lampard will be playing his football next season is still not clear after reports suggested that he was set for talks over a new contract at Stamford Bridge, but his agent Steve Kutner revealed that no negotiations had begun.
The midfielder has hit double figures for goals in the Premier League for the 10th successive season, is five short of Bobby Tambling's all-time scoring record for Chelsea (202) and scored the winner as England beat Brazil 2-1 on Wednesday night. His club coach, however, is not concerned by speculation over his long-term future.
"I don't like to talk about the issue," said Benitez. "I was very clear in the past and I will be very clear now and in the future, Frank is doing a great job for us, he is scoring goals, playing well and he is a good professional and working very hard.
"This is all I can say, as I am only the coach. The situation for me is the same, he is playing well and hopefully he can score in every game and break the record."
