Rodgers wants big push from Liverpool

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has his sights trained on a top-four push in the final weeks of the season.

The Reds claimed their first win in five games with a mauling of Swansea on Sunday and they are now nine points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, albeit having played a game more.

Liverpool are starting to gel under Rodgers and although it is a long shot, the Anfield boss feels they can make a late surge for Champions League football.

"I am a manager, I am an optimist," Rodgers said. "You have to be, but we'll not get too carried away.

"I've likened us to a marathon runner just getting ready for the finish line, ready to make our move, and then we trip ourselves up.

"That is something we have to change going forward for the remainder of the season and finish as strong as we can."
