Lindegaard still hopes to be United's No. 1
Anders Lindegaard remains determined to establish himself as first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United.
Lindegaard, 28, joined United from Norwegian side Aalesunds at the end of 2010 and has on occasion looked to have offered a realistic challenge to David de Gea as the club's No. 1, but the Spaniard has become the clear choice in recent weeks.
Sir Alex Ferguson, having said in September that he was planning to alternate his goalkeepers, revealed two months later that he did not feel a rotation policy "creates consistency". At that time, he had said he was trusting in Lindegaard as he had "not done anything wrong since he came into the team", but the Dane was dropped after the next match - a 4-3 win over Reading on December 1 - and has featured only once since, in the 1-0 FA Cup victory over West Ham.
With De Gea receiving praise from Ferguson before and after his man-of-the-match display in the 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League last week, Lindegaard's hopes of establishing himself in the first team look slimmer than ever, but he hopes he can force his way back into contention.
"I certainly feel that my time here has been a success," he told Jyllands-Posten. "I joined as a small fish in a big pond, and you have to be very strong not to get lost in that environment.
"I've had spells where I've been first-choice goalkeeper, which far exceeded my expectations, but that does not mean I am satisfied. Personally, I feel that I still haven't achieved my dream at United.
"I want to be a regular in the team, playing every time and delivering in the big games. That's my objective, and I've only partially fulfilled that."
