James McFadden has completed his return to first club Motherwell by signing a contract until the end of the season.

The Scotland forward, who scored 32 goals for the club as a teenager before a £1.25 million move to Everton, had been training with Motherwell after leaving Sunderland last month.

McFadden, 29, could now make his competitive return against Dundee United at Fir Park on Tuesday night.

The club said via their official Twitter account: "Motherwell have tonight completed the sensational signing of Scotland international James McFadden until the end of the season."

Speaking to MFC TV, McFadden said: "I am really pleased to be back here at Motherwell. I need to get back playing competitive first-team football and this is the best place for me.

"The team are flying high near the top of the table, but I hope I can add something to that over the next few months."
