Sulley Muntari has praised AC Milan team-mate Mario Balotelli for his maturity after being subjected to racist abuse by Inter fans during Sunday's Milan derby.

Muntari, 28, was impressed Balotelli, a former Nerazzurri player, could ignore the abuse from the crowd and play so well in such a hostile atmosphere.

Balotelli has often been criticised in the media for lacking maturity both in Italy and in England. He was widely lambasted for wearing a Milan shirt and posing for photos while still an Inter player.

When he was with Manchester City he got in trouble for throwing darts at youth players among other incidents.

The Ghanaian said: "Balotelli has changed a lot over these years. He is more mature and you could see that on Sunday despite the pressure he was under and the difficulty of the moment. It is just a shame he didn't score."
