Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has told his team-mates to keep "trusting in our game" as the reigning champions try to haul back the gap to league leaders Manchester United.

United have stormed away from their cross-town rivals, opening a 12-point gap at the top of the table with only 11 games remaining in the season.

But despite the massive challenge, Aguero said City needed to retain the same mentality that handed the club their first Premier League title a little over a year ago.

And the man who struck the goal which brought the Premier League crown to Etihad Stadium believes this season's FA Cup run is the perfect example of how to remain focused on their targets.

"Let's take it step by step," Aguero told The Sun. "Take the FA Cup, each victory means we are a step closer to winning the competition."

"It's about keeping focused and trusting in our game. That applies to all our remaining Premier League games too.

"Can we still win the title? I'd like to believe so.

"We can't give up, even though it looks tough."
