Man City youth player sentenced to 16 months in prison
Manchester City youth player Courtney Meppen-Walter has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for causing the deaths of a brother and sister by careless driving.
Meppen-Walter appeared at Manchester Crown Court where a judge sentenced the 18-year-old after he admitted to two counts of death by careless driving.
The England Under-17 defender crashed his Mercedes into a Nissan Micra that was pulling out of a side-road, while driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone.
The crash claimed the lives of Kulwant Singh, 32, and his sister Ravel Kaur, 37 and left her two sons Amjid and Parveen, who are 16 and 17-years-old respectively, with serious injuries in hospital, both of whom have made full recoveries.
Meppen-Walter had asked to be dealt with at Manchester Magistrates Court but the bench sent him to crown court as the offence was deemed too serious.
