Nile Ranger leaves Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Nile Ranger has left the Magpies by mutual consent, the club confirmed on their official website.

Ranger, 21, made 51 league appearances for Newcastle scoring two goals, with only two starts to his name. He has also spent time out on loan at Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday.

He tweeted on Friday evening, "I'm happy", although the context of his tweet was not clear.

Manager Alan Pardew had previously commented on Ranger's lack of professionalism in the Newcastle Chronicle, saying: "I think I've been fair with him. This guy is late so often, it is unbelievable. He's still at this football club and we're still trying to do something with him.

"But he will still not get back in the team unless he has a period of six weeks where he isn't late. I don't think it is going to happen. It is important, I'm not going to let him train with my first team because he is letting the other players down."

Ranger regularly courted controversy during his time at the club and was released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape in late January.

He had angered Newcastle fans in the same month following the defeat to Reading by tweeting: "Certain fans need to not come and support this team... Coming out to BOOO us.. Stay at home.. Don't need your BOOs.... SAY NO MORE !!!"

He then added: "Last thing from me... To all the fans. You are not forced to buy season tickets.. Or pay our wages.. Please remember that..."
