The Gareth Bale bandwagon continues to gather pace with Michael Dawson claiming his Tottenham team-mate is a better player on current form than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Barcelona's Messi and Real Madrid star Ronaldo are the two best players on the planet, but Bale is bridging the gap.

He turned in another superb display in Spurs' win over Arsenal at the weekend and many feel he is the favourite for the Premier League player of the year awards.

Liverpool players have been championing the claims of Luis Suarez, while the sizzling form of Robin van Persie for Manchester United has impressed.

But it would appear Dawson feels Bale is on a level above. "Gaz is up there with Ronaldo and Messi in terms of ability," Dawson said in an interview with Topman Generation. "He's one of the best players in the world at the moment and probably the best in the world for me right now.

"Some of the things he does would have Ronaldo blush. He's been brilliant. His goal this season against Norwich [the equaliser in January's 1-1 draw at Carrow Road] where he picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled past all those players before having the calm and composure to put in the bottom corner.

"He's been brilliant and credit to him because it hasn't been easy for him. He'll be the first to admit he found it difficult when he first came to Tottenham, people forget he moved here when he was 17."
