Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay is "expecting the introduction of two or three new players" in the summer, ahead of the club's pre-season tour of south-east Asia.

Gourlay was speaking at a press conference in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, where they will face Singha Thailand All-Stars on July 17, before taking part in matches in Malaysia and Indonesia.

In the last 12 months, Chelsea have brought in Victor Moses, Cesar Azpilicueta, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Demba Ba, but those recruits have seen the side fail in their defence of the Champions League.

Gourlay, though, is anticipating further reinforcements this summer.

"When you look at the last three or four transfer windows, we have continued to invest in the team and the philosophy of the football club is based on success on the field," Gourlay said, according to the club's official website.

"We will continue to strength the team and I am expecting the introduction of two or three new players and hopefully they will be in place in time to be part of the team in Thailand."

It is uncertain who will be in charge of the Blues in the summer, with interim manager Rafael Benitez, who took over from Roberto Di Matteo, recently confirming he does not expect to be their boss beyond the current campaign.

Reports from the same media briefing in Thailand suggested Gourlay had said the club were in talks with Frank Lampard over a new contract - but the club swiftly moved to deny the claims.
