Man City still monitoring Abdulrahman

Manchester City are continuing to monitor Omar Abdulrahman and have not given up hope of signing the Al-Ain attacking midfielder.

Abdulrahman, 21, spent two weeks in England on a trial with City last August, following his impressive turn at the London 2012 Olympics with United Arab Emirates.

However, despite catching the eye of the Premier League champions, work permit regulations meant a move was not possible.

But City's academy chief Brian Marwood said the club are still monitoring the player's development, and a move may still be a possibility in the future.

"We had seen him at various tournaments but obviously we saw him closer to home at the Olympics and he did very, very well," Marwood was quoted as saying by Sport360 while attending a football development workshop hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

"Our chairman organised for him to come over and spend some time with us. I think he enjoyed the experience, we enjoyed having him with us. He is a very talented young player.

"There are some real challenges getting a player like him to be able to play in England which is very frustrating because it's one that we would seriously look at.

"But we continue to monitor him, we keep in touch with him, we are aware of how he's developing. He's come back here and done very well and is a real talent."

Abulrahman scored in the 3-1 victory over his former club, Al-Hilal, as Al-Ain got their 2013 AFC Champions League campaign off to a winning start last month.
