Nani and Phil Jones have been ruled out of Manchester United's game against Reading on Saturday.

The Portuguese winger suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's FA Cup draw against Chelsea, when he was replaced by Antonio Valencia at the end of the first half, but could return for United's visit to Sunderland on March 30.

The versatile Jones has been out since United's last meeting with Reading, when he injured his ankle in a challenge with Jobi McAnuff during February's FA Cup tie.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Nani came off against Chelsea but it is not as serious and it will only be a couple of weeks out.

"Phil Jones is not back yet. The players have done well in training this week and hopefully we'll be okay. Jones should start training next week."

Reading will arrive at Old Trafford under caretaker manager Eamonn Dolan after Brian McDermott's sacking on Monday. And Ferguson believes that it was a bizarre decision to take.

"Reading are fighting for their lives at the bottom and could come here without a manager," he said. "Some things you can never understand and football is full of that and to sack Brian McDermott at this stage is strange to say the least."
