Gareth Bale is expected to recover from a minor injury in time for Wales' World Cup qualifier against Scotland, despite missing training with the national team on Tuesday.

Bale, 23, was a notable absentee from the Wales training session on Tuesday, but it is believed his omission was a mere precaution given that he played a full 90 minutes for Tottenham against Fulham on Sunday.

The winger picked up an ankle injury in the first half of Spurs' 1-0 defeat at White Hart Lane, but national team-mate Sam Vokes believes Bale will be fit to face Scotland.

"We think he is going to be fit, he is in and around the team and will be training in the next couple of days with Friday in mind," Vokes told BBC Sport.

"It is fantastic to play alongside him, the last couple of goals I have scored for Wales have come from his assists, and in the Scotland game here he turned the game on its head.

"He has been different class for club and country for a while now, every game he plays in he is excellent and he will be a big player for us on Friday."

Wales take on Scotland in Group A's bottom-of-the-table clash, with their World Cup qualifying hopes hanging in the balance after taking just one win from their opening four games.
